‘Strollin’ is the opening cut on “Horace-Scope” – Horace Silver’s first album of the 1960’s. The whole album is solid “Soul-bop” even though it has what is probably the worst Blue Note album cover of all time.
The changes here are pretty straightforward “Cycle of Fifth” progressions. Silver always seems to have an idea to explore in each composition. This one plays on repetition which feels like call-and-response at times (bars 4 and 5). Bar 17 uses a tritone substitution (Link).
